Jumped Up Theatre x Youth Inspired

Fierce Talent

Fierce Talent was a creative campaign from Jumped Up Theatre, designed for Peterborough. They worked with a Sounding Board of young people aged 16-20, a diverse selection of young creatives, and the city’s youth arts sector to inspire, celebrate and support young people’s creativity.

The Sounding Board worked with Jumped Up to commission a spoken word artist and a film-maker to create the narrative, storyboard and content for a short creative campaign film capturing and celebrating the diversity of practise and culture of young artists in Peterborough.

The aim of the Fierce Talent campaign was to focus attention on Peterborough’s youth arts sector and on young people’s creativity as essential in sustaining resilience and well-being through the pandemic, as well as their importance in the city’s recovery and rebuilding communities.

This process was inspired by Jumped Up Theatre’s partnership in the Moving Roots co-creation network, led by Battersea Arts Centre, and the local Youth Inspired commissioning panel, who shaped the project at its inception.

The Fierce Talent film was shown at DISRUPT, with a discussion on how it was created with and for young people in Peterborough, and the impact the process had on the participants, communities and the organisations involved.

THE COMMISSION

How often do campaigns voice the actual concerns, the authentic life experiences, the honest thoughts and words of the people being spoken to or about?

Fierce Talent is what happens when a creative idea and a social concern meet the creative drive of over 30 young people in Peterborough, who were asked what creativity meant to them, and what that message should look and feel like.

ABOUT THE COLLABORATORS

Jumped Up Theatre is an independent arts organisation focused on creating social change for communities in Peterborough through better access to arts and culture. Their projects and events give voice, space and opportunity to new audiences and artists. They take a strategic lead in the city, working in areas where provision is low or lacking visibility, and where partnership and activity is needed.

As part of the Moving Roots network they have been examining more closely their work with communities and their practise as co-creators, building projects around the needs of participants and their lived experience.

Youth Inspired commission provision for young people aged 11- 25 in Peterborough. We support organisations to create and sustain their youth projects. We encourage all projects to be as youth led as possible.
